KOLHAPUR: Navnath Gore, the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar winner who had to turn to farm work after losing his college lecturer’s job in March, received a job offer and several phone calls on Friday.
State MoS for cooperation and agriculture Vishwajeet Kadam called Gore to give him a job at Bharati Vidyapeeth in Sangli immediately after reading TOI’s Friday report about his plight.

“We will take all care to see that Navnath Gore gets enough time to read and write. The writer within him has to be kept alive,” Kadam told TOI.
Bharati Vidyapeeth was set up by his father and senior Congress leader, the late Patangrao Kadam.
An overwhelmed Gore said he has been receiving phone calls since early morning. “My life has changed overnight. It is a journey from darkness to light,” he said.
Gore said he would accept the offer.
“I have been told to complete some formalities and submit documents. They will absorb me without wasting any time. This is a new beginning for me and I hope I can write more,” the author said.
The job profile has not been decided. Gore’s debut novel ‘Fesati’ also describes the trials of rural youths.
When his temporary position at the college in Ahmednagar district was discontinued because of the lockdown, The author returned to his native village in Sangli district, where he has an aged mother and a physically challenged brother to care for.
Gore will be posted in Sangli so that he can attend to his family, said Kadam, an MLA from Palus constituency in Sangli district.
“Covid-19 has affected us all. It is my responsibility to help Gore,” Kadam said.
“All formalities related to his job will be completed as early as possible,” Kadam added.
